Poplar Run Cemetery

Poplar Run Cemetery in Fleming County, Kentucky, has been in deplorable condition for decades.  In addition to the destruction nature slowly deals out, the cemetery has become victim to vandalism.  There was once a church named Poplar Run Baptist Church adjacent to the cemetery.  In 1868, this church's congregation merged with Flemingsburg Baptist Church.  The abandoned church was destroyed sometime later, and the cemetery became ownerless, which is its state today.  A brief history of Poplar Run Baptist Church and an enumeration of the cemetery may be found here.

POPLAR RUN CEMETERY NOTICE

Volunteers GRACIOUSLY spent a great deal of time and labor three Saturdays in October 2009 beginning the laborious task of cleaning up of the Poplar Run Cemetery located on Route 32 between Elizaville and Cowan.  This cemetery has been abandoned for many years and contains over 300 known graves.  Two graves are of Civil War veterans and one is of a Revolutionary War veteran.  Let's show our respect and gratitude by helping with the restoration of this cemetery.

If you live out of the area but would still like to contribute, donations can be made to the Ewing Baptist Church, 1676 Ewing Rd., Ewing, KY  41039.  Please notate your donation with Poplar Run Cemetery.  For more information call Elaine Logan at 606-876-2121.

Additional work was done on January 15, 2010.  See photos of the progress.

The photographs on these first three links are rather large, and so I put them on separate pages, but they clearly show the cemetery's condition.
